Founded from the parts of two disbanded bands, Rise Against only came together under a different name in 1999. Already with their previous projects, they shaped the hardcore/punk scene in Chicago, but with their new band they wanted to achieve greater things. After a few local shows, the signing with Fat Wreck Records followed quickly. With their first two albums they managed to break out of the local hardcore scene. Their combination of hardcore/punk elements paired with the charismatic voice of singer Tim McIlrath was well received. In contrast to many of their genre colleagues they have a lot of important things to say in their songs. Their lyrics often deal with social problems, animal rights or their dissatisfaction with politics. Because the musicians are also politically active outside of their music. They regularly support organisations that fight against animal experiments and environmental protection or are involved in anti-racist activities. 

From the garage to the top of the charts

With each album, the band has consistently improved its standing in the scene. Because despite their increasing success, they have remained true to their style and above all to their convictions. Their music is now so popular that many of their albums have been awarded gold and platinum records. Nevertheless, they still address the topics they consider important in their music. For example, the album Endgame dealt with the consequences of hurricane Katrina and the oil spill in the Deepwater Horizone.
Meanwhile they bring their messages to the big stages and festivals of the world. For what started as a two-man project in a garage has long since developed into one of the biggest and most relevant punk bands of the present day.
