Opeth Merchandise for real Mini Metallers
Named after the "City of the Moon" from Wilbur Smith's novel The Sunbird, Opeth was founded in Sweden in 1990. Already at the beginning of their career, they played concerts with big international acts and thus also achieved their first label deal early on. As a result, their first album was released in 1994 and they went on a world tour. After the first success, however, there were immediate quarrels, which led to the replacement of some band members. The big breakthrough of the band came when they started to turn more to progressive metal.
Opeth on the way on the tracks of progressive metal
Inspired by many of his idols, singer and mastermind of the band Mikael Akerfeldt tried his hand at music a little more in the early 2000s, as the band's death metal music at the time did not seem varied enough to him. Their album "Blackwater Park" followed, which made Opeth one of the most popular metal bands. They played headlining tours all over the world and quickly gained the reputation of being one of the hardest working bands in the business. So they wrote their double album "Deliverance" "Damnation" within only seven weeks. This not only showed that they mastered progressive metal to perfection, but also how ambivalent their songwriting is. After all, Opeth are known for making music that is not easily accessible. Fans of the band often have to invest a lot of time to understand the works in their entirety. But in return they always deliver something new. So on their album "Heritage", released in 2011, they rely completely on clear vocals. A big step for many fans, but ultimately nothing that mastermind Akerfeldt could not have been expected to take. Because he keeps a back door open for himself by mentioning that he will release a complete death metal album in the future, just like in the old days. We are curious what is still to come in the future?
