Medieval Rock for everyone
Since their foundation in 2000, the minstrels of Saltatio Mortis have been delighting us with their colorful mix of medieval rock and folk rock. In the beginning the band was mainly on the road as street musicians and at medieval markets, but in the meantime they also fill the main stages of big festivals and halls. The band mixes traditional medieval instruments like bagpipes, shawm and jew's harp with modern drums, guitar and keyboard sounds to a distinctive style that invites you to rock along. Their mostly German lyrics are not only about classical medieval themes or tavern slapstick, but are also sometimes politically oriented. So far the band has released 12 studio albums. The most successful album of Saltatio Mortis in Germany was "Brot und Spiele". The album stayed in the charts for 26 weeks and made it to number 1.
The band celebrates its 20th anniversary with the new album "Für immer Frei" (released October 2020).
With heart, mind and many talents
Saltatio Mortis are very involved in social and conservation work, they actively support the "Red Noses" campaign and "Sea Sheppard". The band advertises that all products are produced climate-neutrally. Despite their popularity, they have remained very down-to-earth and can be found in the taverns and at smaller events at the medieval markets.
Most band members have their stage names from role-playing games or fantasy adventures. All band members are very versatile musicians. Singer Alea der Bescheidene is not only the voice of Saltatio Mortis, the multi-instrumentalist enriches the band's arrangements with medieval wind instruments, guitar as well as exotic equipment like the didgeridoo. Lasterbalk der Lächerliche is responsible for drums and percussion, but also for the clock, main writer and mastermind behind Saltatio Mortis. Falk Irmenfried von Hasen-Mümmelstein is not only the "quota nobility", but also masters the bagpipes, shawm and hurdy-gurdy, as well as unusual things like the nyckelharpa. Luzi das L and "Elsi" El Silbador provide the right whistle sounds and conquer the hearts of the audience live with their show. Brother Frank, Till Promill and Jean Merchánt the tambour support with full musical commitment on guitar, bass and keyboard. Saltatio Mortis stand for powerful and passionate music!
